Rosenberg Building Supply Inc.
June 12, 2020
Rosenberg Building Supply was founded back in the '50s in Thessalon, Ontario and originally operating as a sawmill making railway ties for CP. The business evolved over time into what it is today, and two years ago, Matt & Stacey Seabrook and John & Jennin Tremelling became the new owners and have been busy ever since. "Continuity through the transition to new ownership was due in great part to the hard work and dedication of our Yard Supervisor Clarence, who has been with the business for almost 20 years," said Matt. "Along with full support from Bill & Jeannine, the prior owners."
They pride themselves on exceptional customer service. They carry everything from drywall, roofing, plumbing/electrical, decking, kitchen cabinets and much more. In fact, John’s background is cabinet making, and he enjoys sharing his skills and expertise with customers.
Matt says, “We operate in a small community of approximately 10,000, and our customers are very loyal. We know most of them by name, and it is rare when we have to ask a name except for new customers. We are fortunate that there are many cottages in our area that help keep us busy.”
The business has made changes to adhere to government regulations and social distancing during COVID-19. They closed their store to the public, but have an open pick up window and interact with customers on their pick up deck outside. Customers call in orders first and then pick them up and pay through cashless means, either credit card or debit.
“We’ve been fortunate that our sales are ahead of what we had targeted for this year to date,” says Matt. "The DIY and small renos have kept us very busy. We were anxious to restock our shelves at first as we didn’t know what would happen during the pandemic, but thankfully it has worked out.”
Looking to the future, Rosenberg Building Supply is planning to expand its yard and build better storage.
Sexton Group offers value
Rosenberg Building Supply has benefited from the direct buy program, and group buys, which they participate in often and has helped them buy better. “We also value that Sexton Group doesn’t have a banner and supports our independent brand,” says Matt. "We feel that Bill & Jeannine Rosenberg made the right choice when they became a part of Sexton Group in 2008 , and we are happy to continue their legacy."
