Novatech reports on door trends.
March 26, 2025
Katie Sponseller, U.S. product designer at Novatech, a manufacturer of fenestration products, has been conducting extensive research into North American residential door trends. Following a conversation at the International Building Show, Sponseller agreed to share some of her market data with Canadian Contractor. Here’s what she sees trending:
1. Bold colours, contrasts, and textures – Contemporary door designs have given way to bolder approaches that make the front door stand out, including colour transformations embracing bold colours and warmer neutrals.
2. Biophilic designs – Designers are seeking new ways to incorporate nature into more areas of the home, including the front door and entry space. This includes an emphasis on sustainable luxury that marries natural materials with environmental stewardship, as well as connection to the home’s exterior wellness features (such as cold plunges and saunas) through fenestration.
3. Statement elements and monumental door sizes – Monumental eight-foot doors are very popular right now, as is door lighting and the addition of luxurious metallic accents.
4. An appetite for curvilinear forms – Designs that feature flowing lines and have an essence of organic shapes have growing appeal, demonstrated in the revival of arched doors and doorways, following the corridor arches and accent details trending in interior design.
5. Mixed-era blending – The mingling of vintage and modern elements into one cohesive look, for instance, a Vintage and Retro revival.
6. Black is still chic – The trend of black windows and doors has been around for a decade and shows no signs of slowing down.
