Fresh colours your clients will want in 2021.

December 22, 2020

Each year brings with it a variety of colour trends and new colour palettes that will influence what your customers want to spruce up the look of their home through paint, siding, and more. After a tumultuous 2020, many are looking to put on a fresh coat of paint to brighten their homes.

What’s new in paint for 2021  PANTONE recently announced two colours of the year for 2021: PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating. PANTONE’s website says “the two independent colors that highlight how different elements come together to support one another, best express the mood for Pantone Color of the Year 2021. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, the union of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is one of strength and positivity. It is a story of color that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.”

Another leader in paint colours is Sherwin-Williams, and they announced that “Urbane Bronze” is their Colour of the Year. Their website describes the colour “As a pure, minimalistic expression of nature, Urbane Bronze effortlessly conveys a feeling of warmth and welcome. A refreshing alternative and complement to gray, the hue combines beautifully with pale woods, rich leathers, metals and understated natural stone tones.”

Urbane Bronze is a great colour choice to:

·         Create contrast with woods common in Scandinavia, such as ash.

·         Add just a touch of glimmer with polished silver or brass.

·         Juxtapose with Carrara marble, travertine or another pale-tone stone.

·         Extend the nod to nature with organic, textured textiles.

“The home is now the ultimate retreat from the world, and colour is an easy and effective way to create a personal haven,” said Sue Wadden, director of colour marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “Urbane Bronze encourages you to create a sanctuary space for mindful reflection and renewal.”

The “stay at home” mantra has directed where we go and what we do in 2020, but it will also influence interior design trends for 2021 and beyond. The colour is part of the Sanctuary palette in Sherwin-Williams 2021 Colormix® Forecast, which predicts a need for balance in design for the year ahead.

“Urbane Bronze is a comforting colour, drawing from nature for a feeling of relaxation and serenity,” explained Wadden. “There’s also reassurance in its sentimentality, with nostalgic ties to the design of the ‘70s and ‘90s, but with gray undertones that give it a distinctly modern twist.”
